Southern Indiana Works (SIW) hosted the 2025 State of the Workforce Summit on March 11, 2025, bringing together nearly 200 employers, educators, workforce partners, and community leaders for a dynamic day focused on talent development and regional economic growth.
Guided by SIW’s mission to lead a robust talent development system and cultivate a skilled workforce that advances our community, economy, and quality of life, the Summit highlighted current trends, local data, and forward-thinking strategies that support SIW’s vision of a workforce that empowers regional businesses to be competitive in the global economy.
The Summit featured several engaging sessions, beginning with a Year in Review presented by Tony Waterson, SIW President and CEO, who shared key accomplishments, challenges, and opportunities shaping the regional workforce landscape.
Attendees also heard a Local Market Intelligence Report from Sarah Ehresman of Kentuckiana Works, offering valuable insights into labor market data, emerging trends, and workforce needs impacting employers across the region.
A panel discussion on Local Workforce Initiatives showcased innovative programs and partnerships making a difference locally. Panelists Ashley Snyder, Carrier Baylor, and Lauren Berger shared practical examples of how collaboration is strengthening talent pipelines and supporting both job seekers and employers.
The Summit concluded with a forward-looking panel on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Its Implications for Workforce Development. Panelists Jay Smith, Emily Kitterman, and Jason Everett explored how AI is reshaping work, skills, and training, and what workforce systems can do to prepare for the future.
Participation and feedback were outstanding, reinforcing the value of bringing diverse stakeholders together for meaningful dialogue and shared solutions. SIW will use this feedback to continuously improve workforce development efforts across the region and to plan an even stronger 2026 State of the Workforce Summit.
