On May 26th, Southern Indiana Works (SIW) joined Indiana University Southeast for a student stipend presentation recognizing and supporting students pursuing degrees in mental and behavioral health fields.
Through a grant from the FSSA Division of Mental Health and Addiction, SIW is proud to provide stipends to students completing critical, unpaid internships with local nonprofit organizations. These internships play an essential role in preparing the next generation of behavioral health professionals by offering hands-on experience in real-world settings.
This initiative helps reduce financial barriers for students while they gain valuable, career-building experience. By supporting their participation in unpaid internships, SIW is helping ensure that students can fully engage in learning opportunities that strengthen both their academic preparation and professional readiness.
These experiences also benefit the broader community. Students work directly with local organizations, building connections and contributing meaningful service while developing skills that will support future careers in mental and behavioral health. This collaboration strengthens the pipeline of qualified professionals and reinforces the importance of community-based learning.
The student stipend program aligns directly with the SIW mission:
To lead a robust talent development system and cultivate a skilled workforce that advances our community, economy, and quality of life.
Southern Indiana Works is honored to partner with IU Southeast and local organizations in supporting students as they prepare to make a lasting impact in the behavioral health field and throughout our region.
