In continuation with our commitment to quarterly outreach projects, we partnered with DWD and Proteus to celebrate National Farmworkers Week.
By doing this, we participated in a long-sleeve shirt drive. Collecting long-sleeve shirts helps protect farmworkers from pesticides and heat exposure. 2 million farmworkers nationwide work very long hours in hazardous conditions putting their health on the line for America to have one of the necessities of life, food. Pesticide poisoning and heat-related illnesses continue to jeopardize the farmworker communities. Awareness and education surrounding this topic is essential in combatting this problem.
On top of collecting long-sleeve shirts for the farmworkers, we held an in-office food drive to donate to local food pantries. Food is a basic human need and we want to work together to help prevent individuals in our community from wondering where their next meal will come from.
In total we were able to donate 212 pounds of food to the Center for Lay Ministries!
