Quarterly Outreach, Toys For Tots

Beginning this year, SIW committed to “Quarterly Outreach” projects. This winter season we decided on Toys for Tots. This is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserves who distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. And this year marks the 75th anniversary!

Each person participated by bringing in one to three new, unwrapped toys. Children who receive toys are of all ages and vary from young to pre-teen which gives participants a wide range of toy options. Toys For Tots suggests shopping like you would for a child you know and considering what they might like.

We surpassed that goal bringing in over 1,200 pairs of shoes, 1,286 to be exact! This allows for over 420 people to have clean drinking water for life. Clean drinking water has been proven to increase children’s attendance in schools, increase public health, and provide stability to entire communities.

We had so much fun during our first quarterly outreach project with WaterStep! If you have an outreach idea for us please let us know! We are eager to get involved and have loved this season of shoes, but we can’t wait to see what’s next.

If you would like to host your own outreach project with WaterStep at your workplace, we encourage you to please reach out. A unique aspect of WaterStep is that it requires no monetary funding from participates. It is a repurposing and recycling project that creates a huge international ripple effect. It is also an easy project to turn into a competition, that is always fun for all involved. You will really be able to identify the competitive members on your team and see creativity come to life.
