It has become increasingly important for individuals to have access to relevant and practical training. Recognizing this need is one of the many reasons we value our partnerships with both Prosser Career Education Center and Ivy Tech Community College.

These collaborations have allowed us to bring opportunities that impact the workforce development of our region.

We are fortunate enough to have our Continuing Education Coordinator, Teresa Moulton on our team. Teresa works dually with SIW and Prosser, this allows us to easily coordinate classes and programs for adults that happen at Prosser, with a special emphasis on courses that lead to an industry-recognized credential that can help job seekers in their careers. Some adult classes at Prosser are run by Ivy Tech’s skills training department and through our partnership with them we bring all our resources together.

Trade courses have gained immense popularity due to the increasing demand for skilled workers in various sectors such as construction, electrical work, plumbing, automotive technology, and more. The most recent class taking place is a Sterile Tech Processing Course. This course provides training for individuals to begin their careers in the healthcare field. They are being given opportunities to practice in a sterile processing lab in preparation to take their provisional CRCST exam.

Upcoming classes that will be taking place soon include a MIG Welding Course and a Pharmacy Technician Course. Welding class participants will learn MIG welding and prepare to take the AWS certification exam. Pharmacy Technician class participants will prepare to pass the PTCB exam in order to gain their Pharmacy Technician certification.

One of the significant advantages of the trade courses offered through these partnerships is the emphasis on practical, hands-on learning. These courses allow participants to engage in experiential learning, working with industry-standard tools and equipment under the guidance of experienced instructors. This approach ensures that students not only gain theoretical knowledge but also develop the necessary skills and confidence to thrive in real-world work environments.

Providing these courses extends beyond individual success stories. It positively impacts the entire community by addressing the skills gap, fostering economic growth, and reducing unemployment rates. By equipping individuals with valuable trade skills, we are helping to strengthen local industries, attract businesses, and continue our organization’s mission.
